Meditation techniques for life
The most profound thing that effective meditation techniques can teach us is how to live in the moment. This means that when you’re learning how to meditate you’re not thinking about the past - or the future - but focusing on the here and now.
Put like that it sounds simple, but spend a moment now and just watch the thoughts that stream through your mind. Do you find yourself recalling a comment from earlier in the day? Are you wondering about what you’ll have for your next meal? Even if you take part in guided meditation techniques, your mind can (and probably will) still wander.
That’s the past and future coming up to meet you. Just observe what kind of things you think about and categorize them into past, future and now.
Take a moment and try just thinking about now - your body, your hands. What can you see? Look at the colors, the textures. What can you smell? Every time your mind starts to speculate, bring it back to the present by focusing on your breathing. Then allow yourself to expand outwards again.
